Ruwais, officially Al Dhannah City, is an industrial town in Al Dhafra region that grew around the ADNOC Ruwais refinery and petrochemical complex, which opened in 1982.
The Ruwais Housing Complex, about 10 km from the plants, has its own schools, mosques, shops, a hospital and leisure facilities, and houses oil, gas and Barakah nuclear plant workers.
The town had about 38,740 residents in 2020 and lies about 240 km west of Abu Dhabi city, next to Jebel Dhanna; Etihad Rail's first passenger journey between Abu Dhabi and Al Dhannah ran in January 2024.
