Hyundai car batteries

Hyundai models typically use conventional or EFB batteries under the bonnet, with AGM on some start-stop (ISG) versions. Replacement is usually quick and registration-free.

Battery technology across the Hyundai range

Models with Idle Stop & Go (ISG) may use EFB or AGM and a battery sensor.

Conventional

The traditional wet-cell starter battery. Robust and cost-effective for vehicles without start-stop, but heat accelerates internal corrosion and water loss, which shortens life in a Dubai summer.

Replacement rule: Not suitable where the manufacturer specifies EFB or AGM. Upgrading a conventional application to EFB or AGM is often possible but should be confirmed for the specific vehicle.

EFB

A strengthened version of the conventional flooded battery with improved cycling durability. EFB is commonly specified for entry-level start-stop systems that do not need the full capability of AGM.

Replacement rule: EFB can often replace a conventional battery, and AGM can often replace EFB — but EFB should not replace AGM. The vehicle may also need to be told which type is fitted.

AGM

Electrolyte is held in glass-fibre mats between the plates. AGM batteries tolerate frequent deep cycling and high electrical loads, which is why they are fitted to many premium and start-stop vehicles with brake-energy recovery.

Replacement rule: A vehicle designed for AGM should be fitted with AGM. A flooded or EFB battery in its place is likely to wear out quickly and may trigger charging-system faults.

What to know before replacing a Hyundai battery

ISG models

Idle Stop & Go versions should keep the specified EFB or AGM technology.

How we match a Hyundai battery

  1. 1Identify the model, generation and engine — your VIN or a photo helps.
  2. 2Read the fitted battery’s label: technology, size, terminals, ratings.
  3. 3Check it against the vehicle specification — previous replacements aren’t always correct.
  4. 4Registration is not typically required.
