Nissan Altima battery

The Altima is a popular mid-size sedan with an easy-access engine-bay battery and a straightforward replacement.

Which Altima do you have?

Pick the model year to see its generation. It narrows things down — it doesn’t settle the exact battery on its own.

Ask about my Altima

Choose a year to see which generation it belongs to and what that means for the battery.

Important battery considerations

  • Window auto-up functions may need resetting after reconnection.
  • Battery registration is not generally required on Nissan models. Some functions such as power-window auto mode may need resetting.

Symptoms & diagnostics

Slow or laboured cranking
Most noticeable after the car has stood overnight or for several days.
Electrical warnings or resets
Dashboard messages, infotainment restarts or comfort features switching off.
Needing repeated jump starts
A sign the battery can no longer hold or deliver enough charge — or of a drain or charging fault.

These symptoms can also come from charging faults, parasitic drain, cables or the starter. A battery and charging test tells them apart.

Replacing the battery on a Nissan Altima

  1. 01

    Confirm the battery

Generation, engine and the fitted battery label are checked against the replacement.

  2. 02

    Protect settings

A memory saver is connected where practical.

  3. 03

    Access the battery

Covers and heat shields are removed and kept for refitting.

  4. 04

    Swap and secure

Negative first off, last on. Terminals cleaned, hold-down tightened, vent tube refitted where present.

  5. 05

    Reset convenience functions

Window auto-up or similar functions are re-initialised if needed.

  6. 06

    Check charging

Starting and charging voltages are verified before we leave.
