Lexus ES battery

The ES is sold in petrol and hybrid versions. Hybrids have a 12V auxiliary battery with a specific specification.

Which ES do you have?

Pick the model year to see its generation. It narrows things down — it doesn’t settle the exact battery on its own.

Ask about my ES

Choose a year to see which generation it belongs to and what that means for the battery.

  • — Hybrid versions use an auxiliary 12V battery.

We don’t publish battery specifications we haven’t verified. Different engines and equipment can require different batteries, so the exact match is confirmed against your vehicle and the battery currently fitted.

Important battery considerations

  • Petrol vs hybrid changes the battery.
  • Registration is not typically required. Some convenience functions may need resetting.

Symptoms & diagnostics

Slow or laboured cranking
Most noticeable after the car has stood overnight or for several days.
Electrical warnings or resets
Dashboard messages, infotainment restarts or comfort features switching off.
Auxiliary battery messages
On versions with a secondary battery, warnings may refer to that battery rather than the main one.
Needing repeated jump starts
A sign the battery can no longer hold or deliver enough charge — or of a drain or charging fault.

These symptoms can also come from charging faults, parasitic drain, cables or the starter. A battery and charging test tells them apart.

Replacing the battery on a Lexus ES

  1. 01

    Confirm the battery

Generation, engine and the fitted battery label are checked against the replacement.

  2. 02

    Protect settings

A memory saver is connected where practical.

  3. 03

    Access the battery

Covers and heat shields are removed and kept for refitting.

  4. 04

    Swap and secure

Negative first off, last on. Terminals cleaned, hold-down tightened, vent tube refitted where present.

  5. 05

    Reset convenience functions

Window auto-up or similar functions are re-initialised if needed.

  6. 06

    Check charging

Starting and charging voltages are verified before we leave.

Battery options for the ES

Technologies recorded for this model’s generations. The right one for your car depends on its exact specification.

Flooded lead-acid (SLI)

Conventional

Not suitable where the manufacturer specifies EFB or AGM. Upgrading a conventional application to EFB or AGM is often possible but should be confirmed for the specific vehicle.

Absorbent Glass Mat

AGM

A vehicle designed for AGM should be fitted with AGM. A flooded or EFB battery in its place is likely to wear out quickly and may trigger charging-system faults.
